For more minor things, such as downloading or installing, this doesn’t matter. It is much more important that many employees look for a solution themselves if, for example, they did not recognize a phishing email and incorrectly clicked on a link.

However, this is not advisable, as it could put your data at risk if a cyber attack were actually behind a suspicious process on the computer. This careless behavior is horrible in a professional environment.

Almost six percent of those surveyed stated that they solved problems and incidents themselves without sufficient IT knowledge, as the current survey “Cybersecurity in Figures” by G DATA cooperates with Statista and brand eins shows.

In addition, another four percent of those questioned completely ignored problems with the computer in their private and business environment.

40 Percent Neglect IT Security In The Office

Although IT security is essential at work, four out of ten employees are careless in the office. This automatically increases the risk of falling for cybercriminals.

The various attack methods are becoming more and more sophisticated, and many phishing emails can hardly be distinguished from genuine emails. With a single false click, cybercriminals can gain access to your company’s computer and network in no time.

What is the reason for this careless action? Many employees assume that the computer in the office is safe or that it can be repaired quickly in an emergency. In practice, what looks different is a big problem because the “human factor” is unfortunately not calculable.

In the home office, in particular, many employees are careless. More than 32 percent state that they ignore IT security at work at home. This may be because employees are insecure. After all, contact persons in the office are no longer directly accessible, and they have to use additional security measures such as VPN or 2-factor authentication
